Crazy in Cali

Still no pictures (she's a busy missionary...that's good!), but here is her email beginning her first full week in CA.

**Apparently her address has changed, so look back in a day or so to see the new CA address. :)

Hey!!
...it's been so busy BUT i will make time today to send some letters off to you all- for sure! I'm glad mom enjoyed her birthday too- I was thinking about her all day. and thanks for sending the package- it's deff a big help. and can't wait to get it! I'll write back soon as I can!
I am sooo thankful for all of you! I have now gotten to California and am doing the real thing! Crazyyyy! I am in Antelope,CA right now, and my companion- Sister Housely- is from kanas, really fun and knows how to do so much. She is such a great example to me, and makes me want to be a better missionary. The area is great, and I LOVE the weather here- it's sooo nice!! better than 100 degree lol  I am still adjusting to "missionary life" because now that I'm actually in the real life aspect of it- it's quite a reality check of how much I truly have and I have been humbled just the first week I have been out! But I'm doing good!  I had a super cool experience with the man I sat next too, BEFORE I even got to CA.Right when I boarded the plane and sat down to get ready for the plane to take off- I started a full length lesson about the gospel, he was really open to everything I had to say and asked a lot of questions. Somehow I was able to answer- the spirit taught through me and I literally felt the spirit so strong with we were talking about the gospel. His name was Anthony, and he was flying in Roseville for business- and was looking to know more about the Mormon church. We ended up talking for the entire flight. I gave him a BOM (Book of Mormon), and a pass-along card (card with information about the church) as well as exchanged information to keep in touch! It was such a cool experience! He was ready to hear about the gospel! I know that we all have chances to share the gospel whether it's in work, or school- they are there,if we yield to the spirit and just go for it...we can teach through the spirit and it is such a neat experience. I know that if we take time to read, and pray - we can make it through whatever trials we are going through and will be blessed in so many ways. Hope all of you are doing well!

 Much love,

Sister Matchett :)

Leaving the MTC!

Sister Matchett left the MTC and arrived in California on Tuesday morning. She arrived safely and got right to work.  (I apologize about the blog update being so late. Hopefully we'll get on a better schedule now and will have weekly updates). She hopes to send pictures with her next email, soooo check back soon! If you want to send her a letter or package, please use  the "California Address" :)

Here's her first email (she has a limited amount of time, so try not to judge her grammar and spelling too harsly...and no, i'm not going to edit it :) )

The MTC experience is wonderful! I love every second of it- I have made so many friends, have amazing teachers, and love the atomsphere because you can feel the spirit here 24/7- I LOVE IT. My classes are great, most of my district is going to the same mission I am expect my companion (while at the MTC)  and two of our other sisters that are going to the Arcadia California Mission. We all get along so well! Our branch President, President Brown, is really nice and has been such a joy to work with. My companion, Sister Kretchman, is really cool- she's alot like me and we have so much in common. It'snot by accident we were put together.I have been called( while at the MTC) as a sister training leader. Crazy, right? ME of all people lol I have learned to love all of the new sisters as well as our district- we are so close as zone and the spirit is always with us when we hang out. I love them so much! When we were in class we were talking about teaching people, not lessons- and one thing that really stuck out to me was truly listening to the spirit when your teaching because your simply guiding that person to come to Christ through his doctrines and love. I have learned so much on how to be a better missionary since I got here. I love getting to know and love all these people we are and will be teaching. I will be here till september 17, so till next tuesday- then I'm off to California for the real deal . It's crazy to think that I'll be out there so soon! My Flight leaves at 3am, so yay!! I love getting up early now, funny right? haha I still am surprised lol I hope you are doing well, that classes are going well. Lmk how everything is going! If anything new comes up, tell everyone I say hello and that I hope their good with whatever is going on with them. I love you all so much, and am grateful for your support and wish you all the best. Next email I'll send you some pictures with my group, companion, etc- promise!
I wish you the best, and know that savior watches over his children and that he loves each one of us. I know that this is where I need to be, and pray for you both and everyone else every night- may god watch over you throughout the week. I'm going to go the Provo Temple today- so I'll let you know how that goes!

Thank you so much for your support, love, and example.
Love you,

Sister Matchett :)

Sister Matchett enters the MTC!

Hi, everyone!! This is Jessica, Sister Matchett's sister (haha say that three times fast). I'll be updating her blog while she is serving. :)

Sister Matchett entered the Provo MTC (Missionary Training Center) on Wednesday, September 4, 2013. The adventure begins! She left DFW (Dallas-Fort Worth) on an early flight to SLC (Salt Lake City) where she was met by Angelia Olson (our family friend who moved from Texas to Utah). They spent the morning in SLC before getting lunch and dropping her off at the MTC. Here are some pics!! Can't wait to get her first letter. I know she's already missed at home, but we are all so proud of her decision to serve. Enjoy some pictures!

Early morning flight leaving DFW. Last picture with dad and mom for 18 months!
